5 Healthy WIC snacks

April 5, 2023 by Mommabear2many 2 Comments

Sharing is caring!

So I thought after I made the post and video about WIC meals I should make a few snacks. We all know kids love snacks! Especially the kids who are under 5 with those small little tummy’s.

Snacks do not need to be expensive to be healthy. Alot of prepackaged so called healthy snacks are not truly healthy. They may or may not be healthier than a candy bar. But what do we do when we run out of there favorite snack and theres not oodles of time to bake a special treat?

I LOVE FRUIT!

Fruit in and of itself is fairly inexpensive especially when choosing in season items or the always cheap type fruits. Like bananas you cannot go wrong with bananas! So let break it down I weighed some babnnas in every pound of bananas there were roughly 3 bananas. Lets say for us organic bananas are 75 cents a lbs that is 25 cent per banana! Even cheaper if you go with non organic!

So for our first fruity snack let introduce 2 snacks with a banana base

Stuffed banana

1st we are going to take a banana cut it lengthwise and stuff with peanut butter. You could also use almond or sunbutter.

2nd we are going to top it off with chocolate chips, butterscotch, white and chocolate will do. We prefer the enjoy life brand as there is no dairy. Don’t have a hankering for chocolate? shhhh don’t tell anyone! But these are also great with raisins, or Cran raisins. I may have allowed sprinkles on top before as well.

Crunchy banana yogurt

So for this we are going to chop up a bannana or half a banana depending on childs age.

Then we will add a plop of yogurt plain or greek is fine.

Next we will drizzle over some peanut butter.

Lastly we will top off with some WIC approved cereal. Our favorites for this would be Honey bunches of oats and rice crispies.

Apples

Honestly this is one of my kids and sometimes adults favorite snacks. As simple as it might be chopping up and apple then drizzling it with pb is just so yummy! For a special treat I might melt chocolate chips on top. The mini chips work great for things like this.

Healthy Probiotic Snacks

I have 2 different probiotic snacks for you and your children. As we all know gut health is so important.

Very Berry Popsicles

My daughter is almost 1! She is thoroughly enjoy her very berry pop! These are quick and easy to make.

You will need

2 cups of berries

2 cups of yogurt

2 T honey

Milk or water just to make it pourable.

Mix all the ingredients into your blender and whiz whiz. Then pour into a silicone mold here the one I use. https://amzn.to/3nFms5Y

I like to freeze mine overnight. Then I run under warm water and pop out. These store really well out of the mold as well. So if you have a large family like me you can easily pop these out and put in baggies or in a container so you can make more.

Probiotic smoothies

No need to wash the blender put those popsicles in the freezer and make the kids a snack for now.

1 cup of greens

1 c berries

1/2 c yogurt

Milk, juice water and liquid will do for the rest. WE usually do some with milk and some with almond milk. You can also mix the above ingredients except for the liquid into ziploc bags and freeze so they will be ready in a jiffy!

Well I think thats all for now! If you gave any of these a try let us know how you like them in the comment below. Are you a more visual person like me? Here is the video to go with these snacks.

How do you drizzle peanut butter? Mine is thick. Can I warm it up? I have not needed to are you using sugar free pb? I believe you could warm it up maybe with a hint of coconut oil if too thick.

I use a natural Peanut butter and usually it will drizzle. I know the peanut butters with sugar usually dont. It really doesnt have to drizzle you can just plop and eat that was as well. Or you could warm with alittle oil.
