I have spoken a few times about keeping a well stocked pantry. But you might say what on earth is she talking about. How do I know if my pantry is well stocked. Basically you want to be able to make almost anything you would like for dinner without having to go to the store. It also means that you can whip up a batch of snacks for the kids again without going to the store.
Do you get to the end of the week and feel like you are scraping by? That you may not make it to the end of the week? You pantry is not well stocked. Do you have an unexpected family stop in near suppertime and you feel like you cannot invite them in for a meal. Knowing there will not be enough to feed everyone. Then maybe that pantry can use some work!
I love in Proverbs 31: 14-16 how you can see how this women seeks to provide food for her family. I love to provide food for my family as well as anyone who enters my house.
So many people may not know where to stock up. What to stock up and how much? Well I dont know that I can help you with all the specifics I can give you some tips and tricks.
I may not be able to say you need 15 pasta sauces because all families are different. God placed you in charge of your family. So look to Him and pray and seek His will for your life.
The basics how I started
So years ago I started reading honestly it was like God put some many different thoughts in my mind at once. First I was reading books aloud for my childrens history and for generations people put food up. So back then they would preserve food from one season to another. I also was reading an Amish book and they did the same. Really in all cultures somethings were put by. Even in Native cultures they would dry meat pemmican and harvest and dry somethings seasonally. They knew what foods were in season when and ate them abundantly in season.
I did some research to find that most families have less than a week supply of food. But honestly it was for me more about living like our ancestors. Growing food and harvesting that food in season. Then preserving that same food for later use.
I started looking into some things with the LDS church and they gave ALOT of food storage information. SO it has been over 15 years since I started. My journey has been growing and changing over those 15 years. But I would like to share with you all.
Just start
If you are not all ready starting to do something about changing your current pantry situation now is the time! Forget about the fact that you don’t have one and it seems overwhelming. Start by printing off the pantry list that I have down below and go through what you already have. Make a mark or highlight items you will use on a regular bases. Keep you eyes open for sales.
Set aside a certain amount each week or month to make a week stocked pantry a focus. When you finally get to the point where you don’t need to worry because your pantry is full. It is such a blessing and you can in- turn bless others as well.
Check out this post that gives some tips on keeping a well stocked pantry.
